Monodispersed Zn2SiO4:Mn2+ green nanophosphors were synthesized via a hydrothermal method. The spherical Zn2SiO4:Mn2+ nanophosphors with a diameter of 60 nm exhibited an intensive broad emission around 525 nm. The Zn2SiO4:Mn2+ nanophosphors post treated at 1300 °C kept the spherical uniform morphology and had the maximum photoluminescence (PL) intensity, which was 86% of that of the commercial bulk product. For Zn2SiO4:Mn2+, A2+ (A = Mg, Ca, Sr or Ba), the improvements on PL intensity and decay time were evaluated. The decay time of Zn2SiO4:Mn2+, Mg2+ was 4.981 ms, which would be an appropriate time for the plasma display panels. The PL intensity of Zn2SiO4:Mn2+, Ca2+ was comparable with that of commercial bulk phosphors.
