Amorphous and nanocrystalline Mg-based alloys (Mg60Ni25)100−xNdx (x = 2, 5, 10, 15) were prepared by melt-spinning. The microstructure of the as-quenched ribbons was characterized and the hydriding properties of these alloys were measured. The experiment results showed that the as-quenched amorphous (Mg60Ni25)90Nd10 alloy displayed the best hydriding properties (hydriding kinetics and hydrogen absorption capacity), the maximum hydrogen capacity was of 4.2 wt.% H. The nanocrystalline (Mg60Ni25)98Nd2 alloy showed slower hydriding kinetics and lower hydrogen absorption capacity compared to the other Mg–Ni–Nd amorphous alloys. It was conformed that the GFA becomes strong with the increase of neodymium for the as-quenched (Mg60Ni25)100−xNdx alloys, which leads to the higher H-capacity.
