• One-dimensional hollow LiMn2O4 nanostructures were prepared by electrospinning.
• The morphologies of the obtained LiMn2O4 nanostructures can be tailored facilely.
• One-dimensional LiMn2O4 has higher surface areas than its nanoparticle counterparts.
One-dimensional (1D) LiMn2O4 nanostructures with tunable morphologies have been successfully synthesized by a single-spinneret electrospinning method. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) images reveal that the morphologies of the obtained samples can be simply tailored by adjusting the calcination temperatures. As X-ray diffraction (XRD) results shown, Mn3O4 was firstly generated in the as-electrospun nanofibers at the temperature of 200 °C and 300 °C, and then the pure LiMn2O4 without any detectable impurities was produced at the temperature of 400 °C. Additionally, the 1D hollow LiMn2O4 nanostructures possess a higher specific surface area compared with the nanoparticle counterparts, which is originated from their rough surfaces as well as the unique hollow structures.
