Fe-based metallic glasses usually possess ultrahigh hardness, elastic modulus/limit and wear/corrosion resistance. In the present investigation, atmospheric plasma spray was used to deposit Fe-based metallic coatings onto 921A navy steel and Ti–6Al–4V alloy substrates. The microstructure and corrosion properties of the Fe-based metallic coatings were studied. It was found that the obtained Fe-based coating with about 300 μm in thickness showed fully amorphous state and possessed low porosity. Moreover, the Fe-based coating exhibited better corrosion resistance than 921A navy steel and Ti–6Al–4V alloy in aggressive H2SO4 solutions. This amorphous metallic coating could be applied as an excellent alternative material in corrosion environments.
