Guidelines for quantitative reconstruction of complex exit waves in HRTEM

► We derive a simple model of HRTEM exit wave reconstruction from focal series. ► Quantitative reconstruction requires padding and a large number of iterations. ► We analyze the effect of noise, a detector MTF, and incorrect focal plane spacing. ► We use multislice HRTEM simulations to validate our model.
