Removal of nitrophenol pesticides from aqueous solutions by layered double hydroxides and their calcined products

► Adsorption of 2,4-dinitrophenol and 2-methyl-4,6-dinitrophenol is studied on LDHs. ► Mg/Al ratios, pH values, contact times and initial pesticide concentrationss are considered. ► MgAl-LDHs with interlayer chloride ions are efficient adsorbents of DNP and DNOC. ► The calcined LDHs has a higher capacity than the LDHs for the uptake of phenols pesticides.
