Propagation of solitary waves over a bottom-mounted barrier

► We study the interactions between a solitary wave and a bottom-mounted barrier. ► The measured data are obtained using PIV technique. ► The numerical results are obtained using RANS modeling. ► Wave breaking occurs in the direction opposite to that of the wave. ► A local maximum value of turbulence is observed at the impinging point.
