Numerical simulation of suspended particles around a circular cylinder close to a plane wall in the upper-transition flow regime

Suspended particles dynamics around a circular cylinder near a plane wall is investigated by solving the Unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier–Stokes (URANS) equations with the standard k–ε model together with a Lagrangian model for the suspended particle motion. High Reynolds number flow simulations in the upper-transition flow regime (Re = 3.6 × 106, based on the cylinder diameter) are considered in the present study. Trajectories of the suspended particles have been visualized. It appears that the suspended particle dynamics around and downstream of the cylinder are a result of a complex interaction between the vortex shedding, the gap between the cylinder and the wall, and the sediment weight.
