Vortical and turbulent structures for KVLCC2 at drift angle 0, 12, and 30 degrees

► DES for KVLCC2 at drift angle β=(0, 12, 30) deg explicates the vortex structures. ► V&V is performed using multiple grids with up to 305 M points and experimental data. ► β=0 nominal wake secondary vortex is resolved explaining axial velocity contour hook. ► β=30 instability modes are identified and the helical mode is similar to delta wings. ► TKE is up to 95% resolved and peaks at the separation point and in the vortex cores.
