Factors affecting fuelwood consumption in household cookstoves in an isolated rural West African village

► Six factors were identified that impacted cookstove use in a rural Malian village. ► Cooking and heating water account for 65% and 27% of energy use, respectively. ► Fuelwood consumption per person was strongly linked with family size. ► Evidence of stove stacking was found.
