► Formulated and discretized a multi-phase transient advanced well flow model. ► Demonstrated importance of including near well reservoir region in the model. ► Confirmed significance of momentum balance transients at early times. ► Fully and partly transient models converge to the same steady state solution. ► Fully transient model is validated against an analytical solution.
