The electric field required for the transformation of the melting state of langasite from incongruent into congruent was semi-quantitatively and quantitatively evaluated. Both evaluation methods demonstrated that the required electric field was on the order of 104–105 V/cm. This was significantly higher than the external electric field of 600 V/cm, which was experimentally observed. This large difference was attributed to the possibility that nucleation occurred in the electric double layer, which could sustain a very large electric field.
