Effect of carbon on lattice parameters of the MgB2 thin films: A computational study

► We calculate the elastic stiffness of the MgB2 and MgB2C2 compounds using DFT. ► The stiffness is used to predict lattice parameters of carbon-doped MgB2 thin films. ► The predicted results agree with the experimental data up to 40% C doping.
