Forward Physics

Forward Physics measurements at the LHC start will be done by TOTEM, LHCf, and by the forward calorimeters of ATLAS (ZDC) and CMS (CASTOR, ZDC) at moderate luminosities. These detectors will measure the forward particle production and energy flow also relevant for cosmic ray experiments, and low-x QCD processes. Dedicated beam optics allows TOTEM to measure the total pp cross section, elastic scattering as well as diffraction.
