Correlations in nuclei

We discuss the role of correlations in nuclei, introduced by the short-range repulsion of the N–N interaction and the N–N tensor force. These correlations, which are neglected in mean-field descriptions, have a large effect. The experimentally determined number of correlated nucleons and their distribution in k,Ek,E-space agrees with the predictions of theory. We also discuss the distribution of correlated nucleons in rr-space.
