Spectroscopy of excited states of proton-rich nuclei has advanced considerably in recent years. This is due to recent experimental developments in the identification of nuclei produced with very low cross sections. In parallel, state-of-the-art shell-model calculations have become available which describe with very good accuracy the structure of medium-light nuclei. In this review, the focus is placed on the energy differences between isobaric analogue states — specifically T=12 isobaric doublets and T=1T=1 isobaric triplets in the region of nuclei between A∼30A∼30 and A∼60A∼60. Energy differences are interpreted in terms of a number of Coulomb and isospin non-conserving nuclear phenomena which, in turn, are investigated in the large-scale shell model. Remarkable agreement between the shell model and the data is achieved, which has resulted in a detailed understanding of the evolution of nuclear structure along the nuclear yrast line.
