Cardiovascular complications of Khat

► Current knowledge on khat consumption and cardiac complications is reviewed. ► Khat chewers present late to an ER with ACS and have higher risk of death and stroke. ► Educating physicians and patients will help reduce risks of cardiac complications. ► Advocate prospective and controlled studies to elucidate pathogenesis mechanism. ► The role of khat in inducing oxidative stress should also be studied further.
