Associations between polymorphisms in glucuronidation and sulfation enzymes and sex steroid concentrations in premenopausal women in the United States

▶ We examined associations between alleles that code for enzymes with differing hormone conjugating activity and circulating hormone concentrations in premenopausal women. ▶ Associations between E2, E1, and DHEA and polymorphisms in UGT1A1, SULT1A1 and UGT2B4 were observed. ▶ More studies in larger population samples of premenopausal women are needed to confirm these genotype-phenotype relationships and improve the generalizability of these findings.
