Nitric oxide infused in the solitary tract nucleus blocks brain glucose retention induced by carotid chemoreceptor stimulation

► We investigated in anesthetized rats changes in brain glucose retention reflex (BGR). ► Anoxic stimulation of carotid body chemoreceptors increases nNOS and BGR. ► Sodium nitroprusside into STn blocks the BGR reflex induced by anoxic stimulation. ► l-NAME into STn increases BGR reflex. ► NO and STn play key roles in the regulation of BGR reflex post-anoxic stimulation.
