Microinjection of histamine into the dentate gyrus produces antinociception in the formalin test in rats

► The dentate gyrus histamine suppressed formalin pain. ► Histamine H1 and H2 receptor antagonists prevented histamine-induced antinociception. ► Blockade of histamine H3 receptor produced antinociception. ► Histamine H1, H2 and H3 receptors may be involved in the modulation of pain at the level of dentate gyrus.
