Evaluation of ploidy level and endoreduplication in carnation (Dianthus spp.)

► We optimized a flow cytometry procedure for DNA determination in Dianthus spp. ► We determined DNA content of different carnation cultivars and wild Dianthus spp. ► Mixoploidy was characterized in several organs from D. caryophyllus 'Master'. ► Positive correlation between endopolyploidy, cell and petal size was found.
