Anesthésiques locaux, anti-inflammatoires, fonction cartilagineuse et cicatrisation osseuse

Local anaesthetic agents and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are responsible for specific side effects after orthopaedic surgery. Local anaesthetics, and especially highly concentrated (>0.25%) bupivacaine solution administered intrarticularly and continuously after shoulder surgery, have been implicated in the occurrence of acute chondrolysis. Chondrotoxicity of local anaesthetics have also been demonstrated in experimental models. Selective and non-selective NSAID's may decrease the occurrence of heterotopic ossification after total hip replacement. They have also been implicated in delayed bone healing but evidences remain to be demonstrated.
