Improvement in safety practice of blood products transfusion and postoperative rehabilitation requirements have changed per- and postoperative transfusion practice. There is no firmly recommended threshold values of hemoglobin or haematocrit that determine the need for blood transfusion. The decision of transfusion is based on patient preoperative condition including hemoglobin concentration and features of cardiovascular disease. It also takes into account the amount and kinetic of peroperative haemorrhage.
