Ventilation protectrice en anesthésie

In ICU patients, mechanical ventilation may induce pulmonary lesions related to barotrauma, when airway pressures are too high, atelectrauma induced by alveolar recruitment/derecruitment and volotrauma that induces alveolar overdistension. Even short duration mechanical ventilation during anesthesia may favor the occurrence of postoperative pulmonary complications when tidal volume is high. It is thus recommended to use 6 ml/kg tidal volume for mechanical ventilation.
