Different knee surgical procedures are performed which deserve different analgesic techniques. This article addresses the issue of analgesia after total knee replacement which requires an analgesic technique adapted to early deambulation and included in an enhanced rehabilitation process. Femoral block is the analgesic gold standard after total knee replacement. Its major flaw is the occurrence of motor blockade which prevents early mobilization. Alternative techniques such as adductor canal block or periarticular infiltration with local anaesthetics, performed by surgeons, aim to avoid motor blockade. A controversy still remains about their respective indications but they could be considered as an integral part of enhanced rehabilitation after knee surgery.
