Anesthésie de l'enfant obèse

In children, overweight and obesity are estimated, based on evoluting graphs according to age and sex. Overweight has a prevalence of 18% in children from 3- to 17-year-old. Most of the cases refer to primary obesity. Obesity is associated to cardiovascular, metabolic and respiratory morbidity. Postoperative respiratory complications are more common in obese children. Anaesthetic agents are administered based on the ideal weight except for succinylcholine and for the dose of propofol used to maintain anaesthesia. Monitoring the depth of anaesthesia and muscle relaxants is critical in obese children.
