Comment améliorer la prise en charge de la douleur à domicile dans le suivi de chirurgies de court séjour

The development of ambulatory and fast track surgery lead an increasing number of patients to be back home shortly after being operated. Nevertheless, 30 % of these patients experiment moderate to severe pain during the first week after surgery that negatively impact postoperative course. There are several guidelines supporting at home pain management: they highlight information, education, administration of analgesics according to the expected level of pain and the use of analgesic kits. We have performed a survey concerning the use of such an analgesic kit combined with written information and documented a significant decrease in the incidence of moderate to severe pain in ambulatory (21 to 7 %) and fast track (19 to 13 %) surgeries. These results are directly related to a more rational use and a better compliance to analgesics.
