Intérêt de l'échographie abdominale et thoracique en contexte obstétrical

Ultrasonography is especially useful in laboring women. It is available at bedside and does not convey a risk of X-ray exposure. Thoracic and cardiac ultrasonography assesses the haemodynamic status and lung parenchyma assessment and allows determining the mechanism of most critical haemodynamic and respiratory complications. Coupling both examinations improves their diagnostic accuracy. Measurement of antral surface area makes it possible to evaluate gastric content and to determine the appropriate strategy for induction of general anaesthesia if required.
