Sérum salé hypertonique et hypertension intracrânienne

Increased intracranial pressure (ICP) is frequent and associated with poor outcome after brain injury. Osmotherapy is a therapeutic option. Mannitol remains the first choice for osmotherapy, hypertonic saline offers however several experimental and clinical advantages that lead to an increased interest for its use during raised ICP. Its dose-dependent efficacy for controlling ICP after traumatic brain injury, subarachnoid hemorrhage and ischemic stroke is validated. However, improvement in neurological outcome and survival requires further validation.
