It is possible, with a multipurpose ultrasound machine and specific orbit settings (IM < 0.23; IT < 1), with a microconvexe probe, to describe the globus and orbit basic sonoanatomy. For ophtalmic regional anesthesia, two main indications of ultrasound imaging have been selected: searching and localizing pathologic tissue such as staphyloma before the procedure, identifying the local anesthetic diffusion into the intraconic space in order to improve the predictability of the block. The first step, before the puncture, is to evaluate the entire globe and the orbit. Then, for myopic patients, axial length measure of the eye is obtained. Eventually, after the injection, the orbit is analyzed to evaluate the extent of local anesthetic diffusion.
