Prévention des endocardites : où en est-on ?

Significant changes have occurred in the evolution of infectious endocarditis: the incidence has increased with age, staphylococcus aureus has become the most frequent strain, and degenerative valvular diseases are more frequent than rheumatismal ones. High-risk procedures include teeth extraction and some invasive gastroenterologic procedures. In addition, hospital acquired endocarditis is a new entity. Antibioprophylaxy for prevention of endocarditis must be restricted to patients at high-risk partly due to collective and individual risks and targeted according to sensitivity of bacterial strains potentially involved.
