ZusammenfassungDer Thorax gliedert sich in drei Räume: die beiden Pleuraräume rechts und links sowie das dazwischen befindliche Mediastinum. Innerhalb dieser Räume stehen die Brustorgane durch eine Vielzahl von Grenzflächen miteinander in Verbindung. Diese gewähren den Brustorganen eine hinreichende Mobilität und Motilität und entwickeln somit die unabdingbare Voraussetzung für ihre Funktion.

The thorax is subdivided in three spaces: the two pleural spaces on the right and on the left side of the cavity and the mediastinum in between. Within these spaces the organs of the thorax are connected with each other by multiple boundaries developed by pleura and loose connective tissue. These physiologic boundaries accord a sufficient mobility and motility of all the organs in the thorax and by that the basic condition for their function.
