Munchausen syndrome by proxy is a form of child abuse, which is both rare and complex. It involves parents who provoke disease in their children and make them undergo examinations and undesirable treatments. Difficult to diagnose, it is a disease involving the mother/child relationship. Midwives have a role to play in the prevention and screening of this abuse. It is important to know how to recognize it without placing excessive attention on it.
