Several type III maternities try and provide an answer for the medicalisation of low risk pregnancies and deliveries by creating a “physiological pole”. Whatever the motivation, such an approach requires a new staff outlook, a change in the idea of risk and the development of the skills of each participant based on mutual trust and respect. If these parameters are not obtained, it may compromise the initial goals.
