Childhood Experiences of Appalachian Female Survivors of Adult Intimate Partner Violence

This phenomenological study explored the childhood experiences of women from southern Appalachia who had survived intimate partner violence. Three essential themes were derived: living as if an orphan, surviving in chaos, and manifesting a devalued self. These themes were congruent with findings from other research studies. These themes can provide insight for providers as they care for children and adolescents.
