Étude prospective de l'évolution des consommations alimentaires après sevrage tabagique brutal de patients hospitalisés en unité de soins intensifs de cardiologie

Patients hospitalized in a coronary care unit for acute coronary syndrome face a sudden tobacco cessation imposed by hospitalization and their illness. The objective of the study was to monitoring weight and nutritional parameters in these patients. Of the 27 patients studied, 78% were still abstinent from tobacco at 1 month of hospital discharge. Nutritionally, a decrease in daily energy intake was observed, mainly related to the decrease of lipids at lunch and dinner, followed by a stabilization of intakes and a tendency to increase food intake at dinner. These changes were responsible for weight loss, especially in the first 10 days. The results suggest that dietary changes during the first month of smoking cessation induce weight loss. In this context, we might consider prioritizing smoking cessation during the first month and suggest a dietician consultation at 1 month to prevent a return to the preexisting dietary habits and weight gain.
