Modernizing the European Directive: Implications for Nursing Education, Practice, and Regulation

The purpose of this article is to outline the new developments in the governing structure for European nursing, namely the review of Directive 2005/36/EC. A short background to the development of the EU Directive is presented to provide a context. The process and opportunities for further developments for European nursing and the effects the proposed regulation will have on the mobility and education programs for preparing general care nurses are also explored.
