Refresher Courses for Disciplined Nurses

The Arizona State Board of Nursing may order successful completion of a refresher course as a term of probation or return to practice after a suspension or revocation of a nursing license. This descriptive survey study used the reports of course administrators and instructors to ascertain the outcome characteristics of successful and unsuccessful refresher-course students. The results found that nurses disciplined for substance abuse who enrolled in a traditional course with faculty providing clinical instruction were more successful than nurses disciplined for other violations and nurses who took a refresher course online with precepted clinical instruction.
