Human exposure to BPA is low but it occurs during the lifetime and gestation appears to be a critical exposure windows. BPA is an endocrine disruptor which could induce alteration in energy metabolism and obesity development. Pregnant mice were exposed to BPA (0.2, 20 and 2000 μg/kg bw per day) and offsprings were fed with a high fat diet (HFD). Energy expenditure, fat mass and lean masses were measured. A lipid load test was performed in order to determine a potential disturbance of intestine lipid metabolism. BPA induced a effect gender- and dose-dependent effect (non monotonic effect). Only BPA-exposed male offspring exhibited a higher overweight (in correlation with fat mass) than control. A decrease of energy expenditure, a post-prandial hypotriglyceridemia and liver steatosis were observed. BPA appears to potentiate HFD-induced obesity and to alter lipid metabolism in adipose tissue, liver and intestine.
