Moving Toward Uniformity in APRN State Laws

Each state in the United States passes its own laws regulating advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) based on the health-care environment within that state. Thus, APRN-related regulations vary among states. This lack of uniformity has had unintended consequences-for instance, decreased mobility for APRNs, which in turn has far-reaching implications for underserved populations in areas with inadequate numbers of health-care providers. This article discusses a model for making APRN regulations uniform among the states.
