Social Network Use: A Test of Self-Regulation

From time to time, nurses need to discuss practice realities and express their thoughts about their practice with other nurses. Traditionally, these discussions took place in private face-to-face communication or via private media, such as telephones. Today, nurses can use public media, such as social networks. This ability raises questions about the types of communication that are appropriate for professional nurses. Using a search of the literature and surveys of nurses, the authors explore the benefits and risks of using social networks and make recommendations for nursing regulators.
