This focus group approach provided useful insights in the definition of the common core competencies required for future occupational physicians in France and allowed us to elaborate a consensual curriculum. This new curriculum is on the way to be implemented in France, in all the medical faculties involved in postgraduate training in occupational medicine. Nevertheless, when considering the amount of knowledge that is to be acquired by students, the topics of breadth and depth and of initial versus continuing education should be addressed.
