Orofacial neuromotor disorders are frequent in cerebral palsy. They can be recognized by a clinical evaluation of the innate orofacial motor aptitudes. These disorders impair alimentation and speech. The functional consequences can be greatly attenuated by appropriate and early therapeutic education. Techniques are taught to avoid aspiration of food using adapted utensils. The limitations of therapeutic education are related to the existing disorders, their severity, and involvement or not of the swallowing reflex. Gastrostomy may be an indication for some children with multiple handicaps, and in certain severe situations of cerebral palsy. Healthcare professionals require special training to successfully help these children and their families.
