Orthoptie, DMLA et « Syndrome de pré-malvoyance »

People with age-related macular degeneration who have a visual acuity >3/10 are not considered to be visually impaired yet may have a functional loss threatening their autonomy. In this situation, age-related macular degeneration should be considered as a pre-syndrome announcing visual impairment. Here we discuss the functional disorders experienced by these patients and responses that may be proposed, in particular an early orthoptic work-up with the objective of favoring visual efficacy and improving well-being.
