The Stanley Melville Memorial lectures (1946–1950)

The February issue (2006 12 (1)) contained the details of the Stanley Melville Memorial lectures from 1937 to 1945. This paper deals with the lectures from 1946 to 1950. Unfortunately the 1946 lecture by Mr. W.E. Smith and the 1950 lecture by Professor H.A. Harris do not appear to have been published either, certainly not in Radiography.Mr. W.E. Smith FSR, of Birmingham, gave the 1946 lecture on October 12, 1946 at the British Institute of Radiology in London.Professor H. A. Harris, who was Professor of anatomy at the University of Cambridge, delivered his lecture on October 18, 1950 at the Cowdray Hall in London.Topics of radiography in diseases of the chest, standardisation in chest radiography and radiography of infants and children are dealt with. These lectures serve to illustrate the start of standardisation of radiographic technique(s) and provide evidence of sterling work undertaken by the early professionals.
