BackgroundTo the current date no knee total arthroplasty design was integrating the maintanance of both cruciate ligaments, The concept of a transversal support tibial plateau is a new approach in ligament preserving total knee arthroplasty.Materials and MethodsFor analysis of the proximal tibia morphology a CT-based assessment was performed in order to evaluate the distance of the modular transerversal support to the bone cortex in frontal and sagittal plane in regard the joint line. We used a specifically adapted aming device with defined intervals of 15, 25 and 35 mm below the joint line for implatation oft he prosthesis in 12 cadaver knees.ResultsMeasuring the sagittal distance of the transversal support in relation to cortical bone shows a reduction of the distance at an increased rate from 25 to 35 mm. Additionally the medio-lateral measurement reveals the same relation.ConclusionsMorphometric analysis of the proximal tibia indicates a rather satisfactory position of the transveral support with a 15 to 25 mm interval to the joint line. At a 35 mm interval the proximal tibia is narrowing and therefore less utile.Level of evidenceIV.
