SummaryIn a patient sample consisting of 111 inpatients with operated isolated anterior cruciate ligament rupture (ACL) 52 inpatients were treated according to standard physiotherapy during the first five postoperative days; 59 inpatients were additionally treated with continuous passive motion (CPM).The operative surgical care was performed with a patellar ligament plastic as bone-tendon-bone-graft with interference screw fixation.Regarding the examined parameters flexion/extension, thigh′s and lower leg's muscle circumference, knee′s swelling, subjective pain perception, level of inflammation by measuring the c-reactive protein (CRP), anterior-posterior translation, blood heat, IKDC-score, no significant difference occurred during each single examination within the first 12 postoperative months.Newer research could result from the field of cartilage tissue, whereas the influence of a continuous passive motion on the neoplasm and proliferation could be subject to new studies.Moreover it could be necessary to pay attention to newer methods like e.g. the continuous active movement (CAM).
