New Strategies for the Treatment of Metastatic Bone Disease

The introduction of bisphosphonates represents an important advance in the care of patients with metastatic bone disease. Nonetheless, we remain unable to prevent metastatic bone destruction. This review will discuss several novel therapies, including inhibitors of receptor activator of nuclear factor–κβ, c-Src, mammalian target of rapamycin, cathepsin K, and α5β3 integrins, which could improve our control over this devastating complication.
