Enzymatic activity and immunolocalization of Schistosoma mansoni and Schistosoma haematobium neutral sphingomyelinase

► Neutral sphingomyelinase (nSMase) activity was detected in schistosome extracts. ► Schistosome nSMase activity displayed characteristics of nSMase family members. ► Antibodies specific to a previously identified Schistosoma mansoni nSMase were generated. ► nSMase is localized in male and female schistosomes' tegument and gut lining.
