IntroductionDespite ongoing research currently, there is no well-defined strategy in inhibition of sub interventional and small abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) progression. Therefore, the objective of this is to identify factors associated with AAA growth and suggested a therapeutic regimen for their inhibition.Material and methodsAn electronic search of Medline from 1966 to January 2015 in English and adult subjected using the following mesh terms: abdominal aortic aneurysm growth and/or risk factors and/or genetic predisposition, abdominal aortic aneurysm and/or sac expansion and/or risk factors was performed. After application of inclusion criterion 21 articles were retrieved and discussed in this review.ConclusionAntibiotics, statins, anti-inflammatory agents, selenium, vitamin D (25-hydroxyvitamin D), ace-inhibitors, smoking cessation and well-controlled COPD inhibit AAA growth. Other novel therapies could aid in regression of AAA in future and their long-term results are awaited.
